who is Larry Davis, III?

As a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Larry Davis, III (he/they) is always trying to find a new sound. Born into a household with a CD book spanning from Stevie Wonder and Beyoncé to the Prodigy and Neil Diamond, Larry was set up for musical exploration from the beginning. After a childhood spent singing in choirs and a cappella groups, Larry’s production journey began in 2018, with a birthday gift of an interface, a microphone, and a pair of headphones. Since then, Larry has mixed University of North Texas Jazz Combos, produced for local artists around DFW, done long-term workshops with producers like Anthony Preston (Britney Spears, will.i.am), immersed themselves in professional studio environments in Denton and Dallas, and written an EP and a full-length album. Larry’s main professional experience centers around R&B, rock, electronic, and pop music.

Over the years, Larry has built up their fluency in Logic Pro and Pro Tools and used both programs in professional studio situations. In addition, Larry is proficient in the use of industry-standard tools like Melodyne, Antares Auto-Tune/Waves Tune, and the Izotope RX suite. While gaining digital audio workstation proficiency, Larry has also gathered an arsenal of unique sound-shaping tools and instruments, allowing them to be musically versatile and adapt to any style. Larry is also experienced in live sound and remote recording, having used Behringer, Yamaha, and Focusrite systems and equipment to run sound and record full bands.

Live performance is also a key part of Larry’s professional life. As a performing artist, Larry is intimately familiar with local stages and usually performs every six to eight weeks as a solo artist, Karma Sign. Alongside regular solo gigs, Larry is regularly booked as a contract instrumentalist, playing guitar, bass, sampler, and keyboards for multiple artists within the Dallas–Fort Worth music scene. Larry’s live skills encompass sight-reading, improvisation, audio/MIDI programming, and arranging for small and large ensembles.

Larry is currently on track to graduate from the University of North Texas with a B.M. in Commercial Music, with a concentration on writing and music production. Larry’s current focuses include finishing their first album, executive producing and songwriting on close friends’ musical output, and playing regular shows in Denton and Dallas. In the meantime, Larry continues to live and work in the Dallas–Fort Worth area; as a passionate cyclist, there’s a good chance you’ll see them on a bike trail near you.
